CD Quiz - "The Robber Bridegroom"
Handed out homework packet.
You met in groups, picked order for presentations, and we were off!
Groups 2-4 go tomorrow, with any luck at all.
1. Kiefer 2. Bacon 3. Dali 4. Giacometti 5. Ernst 6. Munch 7. Duchamp 8. Escher 9. Rauschenberg
You watched and graded the first presentation today. Your task is to meet the content requirements of the presentation, while also checking to see whether the presenters are making eye-contact, speaking clearly, and answering questions.
HW - read 3 page excerpt from Studies in Literary Themes and Genres Series: The Fairy Tale, by Steven Swann Jones
You turned in your vocabulary!
Presenters were fabulous.
Don't believe me? Check it out: Aboriginal Australians (Taylor, email it to me; I closed it accidentally), Zulu, Hawaii (they surf down MOUNTAINS) Aztec (from the other day), and Inca. I keep getting surprised by both the similarities and the differences here. Flood stories, chaos, nature imagery, pyramids, masks, wow.
That's all we did folks. But, hey, don't forget I will take your notes for points.
Nick and Ryan spoke about Egypt.
Jimi and Darian presented Sumaria. (Gilgamesh!) If the send me their ppt.s I will put them here.
We had an academic integrity lecture. Phew. That's over.
Make sure your sentences are showing the meaning of the word.
Bad example: We walked down the quay. (is a quay a sidewalk? a grassy avenue?)
Better example: We saw the boats and heard the waves hit the quay as we walked along it. Or
Bad example: She had a tiara on.
Better example: Her tiara shone with jewels as it sat utop her head like a crown.
MY DEAL: If you completed Vocab #1 (with sentences too), then you can attach it to Vocab #2 for full credit, as long as Vocab #2 is done correctly. One time deal...
HW - vocab quizzlet tomorrow.
Congratulations! Final Narratives are done--phew...
We listened and took notes on the Maori group today.
See it here Maori Creation Myth and Stuff
Also, we read the first part of The Epic of Gilgamesh-- the first 2 1/2 pages, to be exact.
Look out for metaphor, simile, repetition, detail, imagery, etc.
HW - presentations!
This is a computer day, to do homework, to do the reading, to complete the vocab. It is my gift to you.
FOR Monday - read the INTRODUCTION to Gilgamesh (it is about two pages),
OPEN NOTE QUIZ ON THE READING- take notes on two sides of a 3x5 index card about Gilgamesh.
For Tuesday - VOCAB to do for Tuesday (it shouldn't take more than a half-hour)
For Wednesday - personal narrative (RUBRIC IS HERE). Remember, if you turn it in Thursday, it is 10% off of your grade, Friday 20% off.
Your group has signed up to present on Thursday, Friday, or Monday!
THERE WILL BE NO OTHER HOMEWORK FOR NEXT WEEK, so plan accordingly.
